What I have been up to

Dec 31/2022

For the last 2 years, I have been exploring a new rabbit hole in designing. I have been becoming very familiar with designing my own cut files for vinyl and HTV as well as learning all I can about sublimation and the whole process first I cameo 4 cutting machine and then I got a Cricut Joy and then I got a portrait and them another Cricut Maker & Maker3 some heat presses, a mug press, hat press, and a sublimation printer. I have plans to also to try out DTF  next and learn this process next using my sublimation printer.

I made some t-shirts and sold some and I also gave some as gifts. I have also made mugs and tumblers,  vinyl stickers I have been having a lot of fun creating my own designs. I have also had a few clients that I make marketing merch for using my cutting machines.

In the past 4 months, I have been learning other design platform software like Affinity photo, design, publisher as well as Procreate. I have found Affinity’s designing software to be comparable and easy to learn on my Mac/iPad I just watch their tutorials and then do a small project to practice what I have just learned.

The challenging part with it comes in remembering that it’s not Adobe design suite. Having that experience makes it easier to learn but in some ways, it’s a little more challenging because some of the hotkeys in affinity designer, affinity photo, and affinity publisher can do things that Adobe creative suite cannot. But the experience with adobe creative software makes it easier to learn affinity’s software. I have found that the price of it is its best sailing feature theirs a one-time payment and you good no more subscription fee.😃

In the past few months, I have started to design My own line of inspirational posters and other home decor and tote bags. All have a Christ-centered theme.

What led me to this path, well in August of 2017, I was in a car accident. Recovery has been long and painful. As of late, I have needed something to fill my time so I started to design them at first just for myself and when I shared them with my family and friends, they showed an interest in purchasing them.  So I got to thinking that my family and friends are wanting to buy them and maybe others would want them as well.

Now the ideas just come and I just make a note of each idea and when I have spare time I do up a comp on my iPad Pro and move it to my MacBook Pro to finish up the idea. As of right now, I have not printed any of them due to $$ the expense of printing them, and some of them will be hand-painted onto canvas or etched on a mirror with acid. I just need to buy the supplies and then I will be off. I will continue this in my spare time.

I have purchased an HP printer that will print up to an 11 X 17 and I have printed a few of my ideas and I have framed one of them, I have put it up in my room.

Information About Ordering a Logo

Information About Ordering a Logo

When you order a logo from a Graphic Designer you should expect to pay $100 -$250 or more, but this is the average cost right now.

When you are given your completed Logo you should receive a CD or a folder with the following file types on it; tiff, gif, png, jpg, pdf, eps (Illustrator file)

As well as a Style Guide, a Style Guide is the rules that must be followed at all times. This includes how your logo can & can’t be used and displayed, the orientation of logo as well as size and color and fonts that must be used. This is all part of the brand for your company and must be followed to stay true to your branding.

Now for basic logo design there are 3 basic types of logos:

1 The name of the company

2. The initials of the company

3. Graphic image that represents the company

then there is a 4th type of logo which is a combination of any of the three logo types above.

the software that is commonly used is Adobe Illustrator, which is part of Adobe CC. If they are not using Adobe Illustrator, DO NOT Hire them to do your Logo for your company.

This would be the first red flag that they are not a graphic designer and don’t have the knowledge or the experience to design your company’s brand and Logo.

I am writing this due to the fact that I have seen far too many of my clients upset while trying to save a little money, and got taken advantage of when it came to buying a Logo for their company.
